OK, this probably isn't as funny reading it as it was in person....
When I went in for baby's WIC appointment, they gave me all her formula except for 1 can, that 1 can they put on my WIC card. Well, it is near the end of the month and we are out of formula so I went at lunch to get my 1 can.
Now I will be completely honest and say, that when I had Blaine, I was on WIC. But back then, they gave you these HUGE color coded paper cards that you had to lug around. Now it is so discreet, on a "Lone Star Card" that looks like a debit card. So I'm thinking this neat little debit card they gave me will be AWESOME!!! WRONGGGGGG!
I am checking out. Keep in mind, this is all over a $14 can of formula....
They run this card through 4 times, everytime it was denied. The line is building, 6 buggies deep now and this is the express lane, my neck is getting red and I'm feeling a little faint. People are staring, people are judging, the cashier is being so rude, she gets frustrated and goes to the next cashier over.... whom looks up at me with this COMPLETE AND TOTAL look of judgement, looking at me, looking at the card, looking at me, whispering to my cashier......
My dear friend (who is VERY) outspoken, announces loudly.... "SHARON, I AM SO GLAD THE STATE GIVES YOU FOSTERRRRRRRRRRR PARRRRRRRENTS A SUBSIDY TO HELP PAY FOR THE CHILDREN YOU SO LOVINGLY TAKE INTO YOUR HOME".
I just about passed out. But, I am sooooooooo glad she did it, because it changed the cashier's attitude, and she realized this was WIC, not food stamps so it had to be rung up differently.
We get back to work and share the story with our co-worker. She says "you KNOW why they did that don't you?".... No, why? She says, people sell those cards for drug money. They are looking at you thinking you bought this Lone Star Card illegally!
oh to be so naive.... I've got a lot to learn!

Just a few things
Today was another great day. Back to work after a long holiday, and back into the groove of things. Man did I enjoy the time off, but I missed my co-workers too... so it was nice to go back to work (well not the work part but the co-worker part!)
Blaine came home from football practice with these HUGE golf ball sized blisters on his hand. I said "what in the world happened to you". Seems his Coach (in his INFINITE wisdom... rolling my eyes right now), decided that since he was hurt and couldn't participate in football drills and he missed yesterday, that he would make Blaine do "seal crawls" across the hot turf field. A "seal crawl" is where he pulls his body by his hands.... he had to do it so long, and the turf was so hot that it blistered his hands. Not little blisters either, HUGE 2-3 inch across blisters. I am FURIOUS.... after the incident we had earlier this year, enough is enough. Blaine does NOT want me to say anything because he wants to play varsity ball soooooo bad. But this coaching staff needs to know when enough is enough. So tomorrow, I am emailing the head coach to let him know that maybe "seal crawls" on hot turf in 90 plus degrees is NOT a good idea, and I promised Blaine I would be nice about it this time... but I HAVE to say something. I am sure the coach didn't mean to, but that is bordering on torture in my eyes.... it was so bad the trainers were even mad about it. And it wasn't just Blaine, a few other kids had to do it too.
Garrett got COMMENDED on his Social Studies TAKS test. I am so proud of him! His phone quit working, so he is a soon-to-be 14 year old with no cell phone..... gahhhhh the horror! Don't worry though, we ordered him a new one for an early bday present, so he is excited about the new phone but oh so upset that it takes a couple days to get here. Patience my friend, patience!
Little Miss Ruffle Bottom.... she amazes me every day. Today she started this new thing... "scooching" is what I call it. I put her on her tummy and in a couple minutes time she had scooched around 180 degrees! It was AWESOME!!!! I just sat there and watched her and laughed. She puts her legs up under her like she is going to crawl and pushes until she moves. She can only do this if her arms are down. If she is pushing up on her arms, she can't get the legs up under her. She has now rolled from her tummy to her back 8 times, so it isn't a fluke. This girl is smart I tell ya'.... SMART! :-) She is now starting to "eyeball" the dogs when they are near... it won't be long and she'll be crawling after them pulling on their tails! haha
Things are starting to slow down now. Drama rehearsals are over. This is the last week for soccer and spring football. Hopefully tomorrow is my last massage appointment for a while. Next week is the last week of school and the last week of carpool. So I am to the point where I can breathe a deep breath and relax a little. THANK YOU LORD!!!!! :-) Now I will have time to start working on my continuing education for our foster license!
Oh! And I just booked our room for our visit on June 6th to see LMRB's half brother, B and Grandma. As soon as I booked the room, I got this feeling of "I'm going to pee in my pants". I WANT to meet him, but I'm scared at the same time. What if Grandma falls in love with LMRB and decides she wants to keep her? What if she doesn't like our "ethnicity"? What if she likes us so much she wants us to take B home with us"? I keep telling myself that is the enemy talking, and that things are going to be fine. I am kind of anxious to meet the family, to see what they are like, and to meet B.
Today at work I got the official "worst employee EVER title". My Boss is a great guy, but he is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo long winded. Yea, if *I* say he is long winded, you can only imagine, right!? haha So today he is telling me a story. I totally space out for a few minutes, looking at him nodding. When he gets done, I ask him "did she tell you what she was going to do?" He says no, what. So I tell him...... IT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE HAD BEEN TALKING TO BE ABOUT FOR THE LAST 5 OR 6 MINUTES! I about died. It was hilarious. I imagined myself looking like the cartoon characters with big "x's" over their eyelids while he was talking to me. I swear, I don't know how I spaced for that conversation, but it sure made for a lot of laughing AT ME in the office today! :-)

Memorial weekend
It has been an extremely busy but fun weekend!
I don't even remember what we did Friday night... isn't that sad!
Saturday was a full day. We had both boys' football physicals, a follow up vet appt for Faith, a follow up eye appt for Blaine, a soccer game, drama rehearsal at 2, drama musical at 7 and a drama after party at 9. I don't think my butt hit a chair until the play that night. Let me just say Princess Ruffle Bottom is a trooper!!!!! She just goes with the flow, sat through the musical intrigued by the lights overhead, and dozed a little bit.
In the middle of all of this stuff to do on Saturday, Robert decided he needed to mow the lawn because it might rain. Brotherrrrrrrrr..... Really? Mow, weedeat and edge the yard when we have a zillion things to do? Do you need to organize the garage too? :-)
Sunday, I got to sleep in. And I needed it! I got up and made pancakes for the guys and we got ready and went to a redneck crawfish boil. Princess Ruffle Bottom was the hit of the party! She was so good too, she only got upset once when she looked up, someone new was holding her and she got this huge pouty face... Robert moved so she could see him and you could just see the relief in her eyes. Yea, she is getting to the age where she knows us from strangers. Awwwww! She was so cute too.... she wore a camo dress with "princess" in rhinestones on it. I figure when in redneck country, do as the redneckians do! I had to dress it up with a pink bow though... we don't have a camo bow for her yet! She was just adorable. I wish I could post pics of her!
Then today, Monday, the boys were supposed to go to school. I must admit, I am a bad Mom. I had a huge problem with them going to school on a holiday, and a day we were off from work. So I let them stay home. Blaine went swimming with a friend. Robert went in and worked a few hours and came home. Then we took Garrett and Princess Ruffle Bottom to the movies, to the candy store to get some chocolate/fudge/candy and then out to dinner. We went and saw Night at the Museum. It was really cute! I normally fall asleep in kids movies, but this one kept my interest. That and Princess poopie pants making a HUGE poop during the movie. Ewwww it was nasty! :-) She did good in the movie though, she is FASCINATED with tv, so she just watched the movie, dozed a little, ate and watched the movie some more. I covered her ears the whole time, because the movies are so loud.
So tomorrow is back to work. Wahhhh! I have really enjoyed the long weekend and am so thankful to have a family and kids that keep me busy. Life would be so boring without them.
So.... I can't close without paying my respects to the many men and women in the military, the ones that have fought and lost their lives, the ones continuing to fight, and the ones that serve our country so that we can have the freedom that we have.
I also want to pay my respects to the loved ones that are no longer with us. I know Memorial day is about the troops, but I also think about the ones that I miss so much..... my Grandma Wilson, my Grandma Brown, my Pappaw Brown, Uncle Bob, Uncle Jimmy..... I miss you all so much and can't wait to see you on the other side one day.
FIVE THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR:
1. The men and women that fight for our country, the men and women that have lost their lives fighting for our country, fighting for our freedom.
2. Kids that keep me oh so busy... I get stressed sometimes but without them, my life would be so boring. So I am thankful I have them to keep me busy.
3. An extra day off work... it was so needed and so appreciated! Now I don't want to go back!
4. Air conditioning!
5. God's many many blessings.... from the sunshine, to the flowers, to the kids he has blessed me with, to the Hubby he has blessed me with, to the family I have, to the friends I have.... I am so blessed and so thankful!

What a great day!
After quite an overwelming week, we had a great day today. Garrett, Little Miss Ruffle Bottom and I spent the day with my Mom and had a great time! (Blaine was out having a "social life" and didn't go with us)
We went to Cracker Barrell and ate lunch. We shopped in the store. We showed the baby off to her co-workers. We were there for 3 hours but we had so much fun it didn't seem that long. I got Little Miss Ruffle Bottom a cute princess sign for her room, a princess night light, a precious outfit and with my Mom's discount I spent $20.
After that, we went to her house and worked on pillowcase dresses. She got one made and it is precious! I have a HUGE bag full of vintage pillowcases so we have a lot of dresses to make. I felt kinda' bad though, she did all the work. So I think I'm going to bust out the avacado green sewing machine and try to make some myself.
But we had so much fun. Garrett was a HUGE help, he carried the baby in her carrier and the diaper bag since my neck/shoulder are hurting and when he got done eating, he offered to hold LMRB so I could eat (yea... on his own, he offered, what a sweetheart!) LMRB was good all day. Well, except for the explosive diaper incident but that wasn't her fault! :-) I tell ya', princesses do NOT poop like that! blehhhhh
It is days like today that make an overwelming week worthwhile. Thank you Mom, Garrett and LMRB!
FIVE THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR:
1. My Mom
2. My kids
3. The rain (but enough already! not EVERY weekend!)
4. That Robert ran two of my errands today so I could spend time with my Mom and the kids.

Happy Mother's Day!
Well, another week has gone by and no blogging. Just no time. Between the pinched nerve and shoulder/back spasms this week, Garrett's soccer, Blaine's spring football, having a precious newborn, all the caseworker visits and appointments for Little Miss Ruffle Bottom. I probably won't be blogging very much... but I'll try to update at least once a week.
Now on to the topic.... MOTHER'S DAY!
I just wanted to say I am sooooooo very thankful to be a Mother. Not just on Mother's day, but every day. My kids are my world, and I am so thankful that God has blessed me with and trusted me to care for these kids! Every fiber of my being loves being a Mom.
I also wanted to say how much I appreciate my own Mom! She is the sweetest, kindest, most thoughtful, unselfish person I have ever met. I am so thankful for the Mom that God blessed me with. I am thankful for every moment I have with her, every moment my kids have with her, every gingerbread party, every shopping trip.... I LOVE YOU MOM AND I AM SO THANKFUL FOR YOU, THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO, ALL THAT YOU ARE..... I love you soooo much!

Review of the week
I haven't posted in a while, so I'm warning you..... THIS WILL BE LONG! Just wanted to update on everything that has happened this last week.
Start with Saturday. Blaine met his "girlfriend" at the movies for their second "official" date (rolling eyes). We were at Walmart getting Little Miss Ruffle Bottom's 2 month pictures taken when Robert gets a frantic phone call from Blaine. His car won't start and he is beside himself because this girl is waiting at the movies for him. We are 20 minutes away and in the middle of a photo shoot with a not cooperative 2 month old so he can't use my car. A neighbor kid gives him a jump and he is on his way. He is supposed to be home by 11. We get a call at 10:15 that his car died in the middle of the road and it won't start again. Ugh.... it was his alternator, so his flashers wouldn't work. Thankfully, his girlfriend saw him and her Mom pulled up behind Blaine and waited there for Robert. As a Mom, I love that woman for doing that for my son! So I call a wrecker, and over 2 hours later Robert and Blaine get home with the car on a flatbed wrecker. $120 part and $87 towing bill later.
Sunday was spent trying to find an alternator for a 20 plus year old Nissan. I finally found the part, and Robert and Blaine worked on his car all day long.
Then Sunday, Little Miss Ruffle Bottom started having watery diarrhea. By Sunday night I was totally wondering WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? I'm still trying to learn all her quirks and was beginning to think we had another difficult baby on our hands. The prior foster home said she was always happy, and I began to wonder why she wasn't liking us.
Monday, called the Dr. and they think she got a virus while she was there in the office for her 2 month shots, there is something going around. They put her on soy formula for 4-5 days. After 2 bottles of soy formula, her diarrhea was gone. And we have a NEW child. She IS always happy! Thank you God!
Monday was supposed to be my Mom's first day of "Granny daycare" here at our house. I get a frantic call around 6:45 that my Dad had totalled his car on the way to work and she was running late. So I call Robert and he turns around and comes home from work. He took a vacation day and stayed home with the baby while my Mom tended to my Dad. And thank God my Dad wasn't hurt in the wreck.
Phew.... what a week so far.
So Tuesday... can't think of anything too exciting, other than soccer practice was cancelled because of the weather and swine flu. It was nice to not have that one extra thing to do.
Wednesday, we had our FOURTH Caseworker visit since Little Miss Ruffle Bottom came here less than 2 weeks prior. She ended up being really super nice, so it wasn't all that bad.
Thursday, my cousin, Adrianna, had her baby via c-section. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 12 oz. and is totally healthy. She lost a child last year, so this baby has a special place in my heart. Congrats Adrianna and Jonathan and welcome baby Lucas! And soccer practice cancelled once again.
Friday morning, my friend Yolanda had brain surgery. She had/has AVM and a blood clot ruptured in her head, they had to go in and remove the blood clot/veins from her brain. Got word about 2:30 that surgery was good, and she was on her way to recovery. Thank you God!
Friday at lunch, my 2 co-workers and I went for a pedicure. They had bought me a gift certificate for one for my bday. It was soooooooo nice to go, sit, relax, laugh and be pampered together. And now I feel like a princess with my zebra painted toes. I know, it sounds hideous, but they look soooooooo cool! And they both got a good laugh when they busted out the Drimmel drill to sand down my horrendously calloused heels. :-) yea.... a woman should NOT let her feet get THAT bad. And tonight, Robert and I watched Fireproof. Good movie, horrible acting, but good movie! Blaine went to his girlfriend's house to meet her parents tonight. Ugh, I am soooooo not ready for this. I miss the days when he was 2 and throwing temper tantrums. Now he's 16 and throwing temper tantrums and dating too. How did I get so old so quick?
So my Mom and Little Miss Ruffle Bottom had a great week. It sure is nice to see her every morning, and to go to work and not worry about the baby like I would if she were in a daycare. I know she is in good hands, and I think my Mom is enjoying it a little too. :-) (at least I hope so!)
We got a call for a 9 month old little boy today. Awwwww, I wanted to take him so bad. But we may have Yolanda's 3 kids all weekend while she is in the hospital, and we aren't licensed to have that many kids in the house (yes, the state dictates how many children we can have here at any given time). Plus we are just now getting our routine down with the baby, and I don't want to overdo it. And I'm sure my Mom wouldn't be thrilled to know there are 2 infants to watch! But man did he sound precious!
Tomorrow, my Mom and I are going to Costco. I am so excited to get to buy stuff in bulk now! And to spend some time with her!!!! And Garrett's soccer game is cancelled because of the swine flu. Not to mention all field trips for the rest of the year.
So there you have it.... my week in review. We are settling in to a routine with the baby, and things are going great. I may regret saying this later.... but it isn't NEAR as hard as I thought it would be to have 2 teenagers and an infant at the same time. Did I just say that out loud?????
FIVE THINGS I AM THANKFUL FOR:
1. My Mom, she is amazing!
2. Yoland's surgery going well!
3. Baby Lucas!
4. Pedicures!
5. Laughing and having a good time with friends!
Start with Saturday. Blaine met his "girlfriend" at the movies for their second "official" date (rolling eyes). We were at Walmart getting Little Miss Ruffle Bottom's 2 month pictures taken when Robert gets a frantic phone call from Blaine. His car won't start and he is beside himself because this girl is waiting at the movies for him. We are 20 minutes away and in the middle of a photo shoot with a not cooperative 2 month old so he can't use my car. A neighbor kid gives him a jump and he is on his way. He is supposed to be home by 11. We get a call at 10:15 that his car died in the middle of the road and it won't start again. Ugh.... it was his alternator, so his flashers wouldn't work. Thankfully, his girlfriend saw him and her Mom pulled up behind Blaine and waited there for Robert. As a Mom, I love that woman for doing that for my son! So I call a wrecker, and over 2 hours later Robert and Blaine get home with the car on a flatbed wrecker. $120 part and $87 towing bill later.
Sunday was spent trying to find an alternator for a 20 plus year old Nissan. I finally found the part, and Robert and Blaine worked on his car all day long.
Then Sunday, Little Miss Ruffle Bottom started having watery diarrhea. By Sunday night I was totally wondering WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO? I'm still trying to learn all her quirks and was beginning to think we had another difficult baby on our hands. The prior foster home said she was always happy, and I began to wonder why she wasn't liking us.
Monday, called the Dr. and they think she got a virus while she was there in the office for her 2 month shots, there is something going around. They put her on soy formula for 4-5 days. After 2 bottles of soy formula, her diarrhea was gone. And we have a NEW child. She IS always happy! Thank you God!
Monday was supposed to be my Mom's first day of "Granny daycare" here at our house. I get a frantic call around 6:45 that my Dad had totalled his car on the way to work and she was running late. So I call Robert and he turns around and comes home from work. He took a vacation day and stayed home with the baby while my Mom tended to my Dad. And thank God my Dad wasn't hurt in the wreck.
Phew.... what a week so far.
So Tuesday... can't think of anything too exciting, other than soccer practice was cancelled because of the weather and swine flu. It was nice to not have that one extra thing to do.
Wednesday, we had our FOURTH Caseworker visit since Little Miss Ruffle Bottom came here less than 2 weeks prior. She ended up being really super nice, so it wasn't all that bad.
Thursday, my cousin, Adrianna, had her baby via c-section. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 12 oz. and is totally healthy. She lost a child last year, so this baby has a special place in my heart. Congrats Adrianna and Jonathan and welcome baby Lucas! And soccer practice cancelled once again.
Friday morning, my friend Yolanda had brain surgery. She had/has AVM and a blood clot ruptured in her head, they had to go in and remove the blood clot/veins from her brain. Got word about 2:30 that surgery was good, and she was on her way to recovery. Thank you God!
Friday at lunch, my 2 co-workers and I went for a pedicure. They had bought me a gift certificate for one for my bday. It was soooooooo nice to go, sit, relax, laugh and be pampered together. And now I feel like a princess with my zebra painted toes. I know, it sounds hideous, but they look soooooooo cool! And they both got a good laugh when they busted out the Drimmel drill to sand down my horrendously calloused heels. :-) yea.... a woman should NOT let her feet get THAT bad. And tonight, Robert and I watched Fireproof. Good movie, horrible acting, but good movie! Blaine went to his girlfriend's house to meet her parents tonight. Ugh, I am soooooo not ready for this. I miss the days when he was 2 and throwing temper tantrums. Now he's 16 and throwing temper tantrums and dating too. How did I get so old so quick?
